Ashtanga Yoga The Eight Limbs

The Five Faces Of Westner Yoga

In the United States the American Fitness Professionals & Associates offers Yoga Certification for intructors.
Ashtanga means "eight limbs" in Sanskrit, a reference to eight elements that define as a lifestyle. These "limbs" cover your attitudes towards the world around you, your attitudes towards yourself, the poses, breathing exercises, the withdrawal of the senses, concentration, contemplation, and enlightenment.
As a type of yoga, Ashtanga is better known as "power yoga." This specialized form of Hatha yoga (which uses the third and forth of the eight limbs, poses and breathing exercises) provides an intense workout. Six series of poses within Ashtanga yoga allow for steps of progression in skill, strength, and flexibility. After learning the order of poses from an instructor (the first series includes 75 poses and can take two hours to complete), students often practice Ashtanga independently. This allows them to progress at their own pace to master each series before attempting to learn the next.
With 75 poses in the first series alone, Ashtanga yoga can be difficult to learn, especially with the Sanskrit names.

How To Generate More Business For Your Yoga Studio With Minimal Cost
The basic idea is that you make an arrangement with some other professional or business who serves customers who might also wish to take yoga. .....
Did you know?
Buddha, who is estimated to have lived 563 to 483 BC, is believed to have studied what was known of yoga at that time as part of an extensive education in Hindu philosophy. It is also very likely, given the rapid growth of Buddhism after his death and before the Bhagavad Gita was composed, that Buddhism had some influence on that work. There is a considerable overlap between the Hindu yoga tradition and Buddhism.

Many athletes prefer Ashtanga yoga because of its vigorous full-body workout. With meditation downplayed and the poses emphasized, "power yoga" focuses on building flexibility, stamina, and strength, tied into breathing control, with breathing synchronized with the poses. Each breath correlates with one pose. The focal point of the eyes is also controlled, to create a unified control of the looking point, the breathing, and the bodily position.

The Eagle ? (Garudasana)
The Sanskrit word ?Garuda? means an eagle, hence the name given to this posture.

"Intense" describes Ashtanga yoga as a whole. This type of yoga stresses the synchronized breathing and vigorous poses to produce intense internal heat and to detoxify the body (organs and muscles) by profuse sweating. Make sure you have time for a shower after the Ashtanga yoga lesson! The results include improved circulation and a body that's both strong and lithe.
A warm environment best suits Ashtanga yoga to comfort the muscles and ease their flexibility. A proper warm-up and relaxing session are required for this form of yoga to avoid harm. The demands of these exercises make caution necessary, as an individual can overdo the workouts, overstrain his or her muscles, and do physical damage. People not used to exercise definitely should not start with this form of yoga.

Manduka 71-Inch Yoga Mat (Black)
One of the most durable yoga mats available, Manduka's black mat is made from high-performance material designed to endure a lifetime of yoga practice. The mat has a specific top and bottom surface. The top's sticky surface keeps feet firmly rooted during balancing poses, such as Warrior or Downward Facing Dog. The bottom side remains stable on hard floors or carpet, and won't shift or bunch up during movement. The mat's 1/4-inch thickness provides superior cushioning for the spine, hips, knees, and elbows during restful postures like Child's pose. For safe practicing, the mat's surface remains slip-free even when wet with perspiration. Measuring 71 inches long and 26 inches wide, the mat is long enough for taller yoga practitioners. Though its 6-1/2-pound weight makes it a little heavier than other yoga mats, with more weight, comes noticeably more comfort. --Cristina Vaamonde
Customer Review: I <3 this mat!
I bought this mat about a year and a half ago and love it! It is very thick, which makes it much more comfortable than thinner mats. It is also very sturdy, which makes it a lot better for balancing poses than the typical squishier yoga mats. I was traveling last week and had to use a mat at the studio--the squishiness and thinness of the mat made my feet hurt a lot! I bought my boyfriend the purple travel one and he liked it, but thought it was too short so then I bought him the 85-inch black mat and he loves it!

1/4" Extra Thick Deluxe High Density Yoga Mat
At 6.2mm, our extra thick yoga mat is a full 1/4" thick, and is one of the thickest mats on the market. The mats come in a variety of colors that are strong and vivacious, but not overpowering in their brightness. This well-made yoga mat will add comfort to your yoga workouts. And because of its high quality, this mat will last longer than most standard foam mats. When shopping around for a yoga mat, note that what many other companies call a 1/4" mat is actually 4.5 - 5.2 mm in thickness -- considerably thinner than this mat.
Customer Review: Mine is great
After reading other reviews before purchasing, I was expecting the rubbery smell. It did have the odor, but it vanished in a few days once it was out of the packaging. The mat is a good length and sticky enough that I don't slip, but not so sticky that it is difficult to transition between positions. It provides enough padding that I can use it on my hardwood floors without discomfort in my wrists, knees, and ankles. Great value for the price.

ToeSox Yoga / Pilates Toe Socks, Organic Cotton
These socks fit like a second skin, providing an hygienic alternative to bare feet. Made from pure natural cotton for coolest comfort.
Customer Review: A number of improvements needed. but just ok.
numbered not in order of importance. 1) they shrink more than little if you wash them alot in warm water...this is especially a problem when it comes to putting on "your toes". 2) the cotton is too thin for me and most good organic cotton socks like some of the Maggies line and it seems like it thins and fades too fast after use....more dense soft treated organic cotton needed!!!!! 3) the protective studs are not dense enough to make for a breakthrough in 'sock technology'. 4) t00 pricey for what they end up becoming. 5) I recommend buying yourself one pair in a size larger if possible, and pick one with color (not white)
